Job Title: Marine Superintendent (Tankers)
Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Job Summary:
The Marine Superintendent will be responsible for the marine and operational aspects of a designated fleet of tanker vessels, ensuring compliance with international regulations, vetting requirements, and company policies. This role involves proactive management of safety, security, quality, and environmental protection, driving operational excellence, and providing expert guidance to shipboard teams. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive Master Mariner experience on tankers to enhance fleet performance and uphold the highest industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety, Quality & Environmental Management:
Implement, monitor, and continuously improve the company's Safety Management System (SMS) in line with ISM Code, ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), and other relevant regulations.
Ensure compliance with MARPOL, SOLAS, STCW, MLC, ISPS Code, and all other applicable national and international maritime conventions.
Promote a strong safety culture across the fleet and shore office, emphasizing proactive safety behaviors and environmental protection.
Oversee the implementation of emergency response procedures and contingency plans.
Vetting & Inspections:
Prepare assigned tanker vessels for various inspections, including SIRE, CDI, PSC, Flag State, and client/terminal vetting.
Review inspection reports, identify root causes of deficiencies, and ensure timely and effective close-out of observations and non-conformities.
Provide expert guidance to shipboard staff on vetting requirements and best practices for presenting vessels.
Incident Investigation & Analysis:
Lead and participate in the investigation of marine incidents, accidents, near-misses, and non-conformities, applying robust root cause analysis techniques.
Prepare detailed investigation reports, track corrective and preventive actions, and disseminate lessons learned across the fleet.
Identify trends in incidents and develop proactive measures to mitigate risks.
Operational Support & Performance:
Provide operational guidance and support to shipboard management (Master, Chief Officer) on navigation, cargo operations, port calls, and other marine matters.
Monitor vessel performance related to safe navigation, cargo handling, and efficient operations.
Review and approve ship-specific procedures and operational manuals.
Liaise with commercial operators, charterers, and port authorities as required.
Training & Crew Competency:
Assess the marine-related competency of shipboard personnel during vessel visits and provide necessary training and guidance.
Contribute to the development and delivery of marine and safety training programs for both shore-based and shipboard personnel.
Ensure crew understanding and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Audits & Vessel Visits:
Conduct regular vessel visits, internal audits (ISM, ISPS, MLC), and safety inspections to ensure compliance with company policies, international regulations, and industry best practices.
Evaluate the effectiveness of safety equipment, navigation practices, cargo systems, and crew competency on board.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain and update marine-related documentation, manuals, and procedures.
Generate regular reports on vessel safety performance, incident trends, and operational compliance.
Eligibility Criteria:
Education & Certification:
Hold a valid Master Mariner CoC (Class 1 Master, Unlimited).
Sailing Experience:
Master Mariner with Minimum of 4 to 12 months (cumulative) of sailing experience as Master on tanker vessels (oil, chemical, or gas tankers are preferred). (Fresher at shore can also apply)
Shore Experience (Advantageous):
Candidates with 1-2 years of shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent specifically managing tankers will be given preference.
Marine & Operational Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations, including ISM Code, ISPS Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, STCW, and MLC.
Strong understanding of tanker operations, cargo handling (loading, discharging, tank cleaning), and inert gas systems.
Thorough familiarity with vetting inspection regimes, particularly SIRE and CDI.
Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
Understanding of Port State Control (PSC) procedures.
